Our Carbon Frame Repair Process
Every carbon frame that comes into be repaired we start with a deep analysis of the entire frame. Typically if the bike is cracked in one location there may be other parts of the frame that could potentially have minor fractures that need to be addressed.
Following the analysis and identifying all the damaged areas we clean the frame and tape off the damaged portion(s) of the carbon frame. It’s essential to have a clean dust free frame for the following steps of the process.
The next step is to remove any of the damaged carbon by sanding down the carbon. We do this for two reasons. One, this helps us see what the extent of the damage to the carbon is. Two, this creates a sure bond with the new carbon and the original carbon.
Next we begin laying carbon and resin on the frame and then we finish the with wrapping the newly laid carbon with a protective and air tight wrap.
Once the carbon has set we begin sanding and matching the industrial design of the frame to ensure the frame doesn’t lose its engineered design. This helps maintain the original performance of the frame.
If you are wanting your bike fully restored with decals and paint we can provide a quote for that. All of the frames that have been repaired are finished with a protective epoxy finish if you don’t request a custom paint finish.
Why Chose us?
Before starting Utah Carbon Bike Repair you had to take your bike to the shop, have the bike disassembled, boxed up, and shipped out to Colorado, California or other parts of the country to have your frame repaired. Now, none of these steps are required. Using East Bench Composites technology, minimal disassembly is required for most repairs.
We’ve worked in bike shops for several years and started to see a trend. They wouldn’t end up getting their frames repaired because they didn’t want to deal with shipping and waiting several weeks to have their bike repaired. For a sport we like to think of as 'green', cycling creates waste and uses natural resources just like everything else. Most riders would be shocked at the amount of waste that goes into buying a new bike. By comparison, we are taking products that are effectively waste and repairing them correctly, therefore drastically minimizing the amount of resources it takes to get you riding again
That’s when the idea was started. We wanted to provide a local carbon bike frame repair service with quick turnarounds so you can be back on the trail or road enjoying your bike.
This isn’t to say we don’t accept frames from outside the state of Utah though.
